When I was growing up I wanted to be just like my big brother. My big brother was smart so I wanted to be smart. My big brother went to college so I wanted to go to college. My big brother was rich so I wanted to be rich. My big brother went off to accomplish great thing so I wanted to accomplish great things. I literally wanted to be just like him because in my eyes and in my opinion he could do no wrong and for that very reason I appreciated him. It was him that taught me to believe in my dreams no matter what and to never give up no matter what people said and no matter the odds that were up against me.
When I first decided I wanted to go to college the first person I approached was my brother. I knew he would be able to help me figure out how to pay for college because he had paid for college without the help of my parents so I knew he could offer advice to me. The first place he led me to were scholarships. He was against having to take out loans in order to obtain a college education and quite frankly I was against it too because I didn’t want to have to owe anyone money just to get an education.
The first scholarship I went after was a scholarship from Keith Mann. In order for me to win it all I had to do was write an essay about how receiving a scholarship would help me and how I would use it.
If you don’t know who Keith and Keely Man are they are legendary leaders in the search executive world. They are dedicated to make sure youth receive equal opportunities despite their upbringings.
